Crewneck sweaters

Crewneck (or O-neck) sweater has come one of my favourite pieces this season. It’s versatile, comfy, warm and still looks good. Compared to it’s V-neck sister it’s more casual, especially in heavy wool. It forms a great pair with raw denim, cords and heavier chinos.

And what’s the best (at least for us who don’t have lots of money) is that you don’t have to pay big money to get good ones.

This is maybe my favourite one - a flecked wool sweater. I have actually two of these this wheat one and a burgundy one. You can wear it with an OCBD for ivy look or just wear it just by itself (as I’m actually doing right now) for some bohemian type of thing. You can get one from H&M for 30 euros.

Uniqlo lambswool sweaters offer maybe the best bang for the buck. They cost like 15 pounds, made of soft wool and on top of that they have raglan sleeves. This orange one looks just great with a pair of dark jeans and ocbd. I got to get more of these.

My latest addition is this raglan sleeved fair isle sweater by H&M. Again great stuff for 30 euros. It’s made of some random wool blend but it’s still soft and it doesn’t have any plastic feel. I think it would also look pretty nice worn under a heavy sports coat.

Crewcnecks are great additions for just anyones winter wardrobe. I’ll try to post some WAYW-pics rocking these sweaters next week, stay tuned.

Downshifting the style

My style has changed a lot in a few past years from a long haired rocker to a ice cream eating pity pitti boy. But lately I’ve been really going trough some serious downshifting. I spend like a whole year wearing only collared shirts but last summer I started wearing tees, hoodies, sweatshirts etc. again. And it’s a really good thing because let’s face it:

No girl (at least very few) at this age really wants us to wear that blogger blue jacket and white pantaloons. What they (propably) want is just a pair of jeans, gray sweatshirt and canvas sneakers.

But why to change your style just to please the girls you’re not going to date anyway? Well there is another worn statement: dress your age. I’ve been asking this from myself pretty much. Even though I love those more formal looks I felt kinda awkward when I met some friends downtown. That finally got me to reconsider my style.

So what did I do? I simply changed the lower gear. I didn’t need to change my style. I realized that a good outfit needed just jeans, button down and crewneck sweater or sweatshirt. Simple as that. It’s comfortable and good looking. What else you need?

I’m not saying that you couldn’t wear sports jackets if you were young guy. You can and you should. Just do it in a way that’s good for your age. Good jacket with pair of nicely worn jeans and monks still rocks hard. So let’s continue wearing the hell out our fine Italian unstructured jackets, they deserve it!

About proportions

*Disclaimer: may include some bad English*

As you may know, todays trendish suit’s maybe the most recognizable detail is the narrow lapels (about 5cm). When a more classic suit has about 8cm wide lapels. Then there are the seventies.. but let’s not talk about that.

I see a lots of guys wearing a nice fitted suit with trendy lapels. And that’s totally right. But what isn’t is that they’re wearing that suit with a spread collar shirt and “wide” tie. And vice verca: classic Neapolitan suit worn with a shirt with a f*cking mickeymousecollar and skinny tie. That just looks like sh*t!

If you want to rock a more trendy look do it like this. Narrow lapels, skinny tie and shirt with a little smaller collar. Everything has been shrinked to minium but when the proportions are set it still looks good.

For a classic #menswear look get a suit with about 8cm wide lapels, shirt with a spread collar and tie to match the width of lapels.

The Nordic Fit

Basically: If your suit has narrow lapels you need narrow tie. Vice verca wider lapels, wider tie. The tie should be about as wide as the lapels. You should also take a note on your body. If you have very wide chest you don’t want to wear narrow lapels and skinny ties. If you’re very thin wide lapels and ties won’t suit you.
